We've become an immediate gratification kind of culture. We want the end-result but we don’t want to do the fucking work to get there. We want it all wrapped up with a bow. We don’t want to know what it took to make the bow happen and we don’t care either.
That’s called ignorance. And don’t be fooled. Ignorance isn’t bliss. Ignorance is just stupid.
Do the work. Do the hard things. It builds character. Most of us didn’t get the fancy job without doing things like saying “do you want fries with that?” first. Grab a shovel and get in the ditch. Do the fucking work.
Take the punches square on the chin too. Don’t duck. Don’t run for cover. Don’t look for the easy out. Don’t point the finger. Be fucking accountable.
Show up! Show up when it doesn’t matter. Show up when no one is looking. Show up when the only payoff is your own satisfaction of knowing you did it, no one else did it, only you. Don’t hit the snooze button. Get your ass out of bed and show the fuck up.
Be grateful. If someone does lend a helping hand to lift you up, say fucking thank you. Be respectful. Be humble. Be appreciative. You’re not entitled to anything. No one owes you fucking shit.
Earn it. Earn it by doing the work, taking the punches, showing up and saying thank you for fucksake. Then you know what happens, you get some fucking pride in yourself. You earned it on your own and not by riding the coattails of handouts and give me’s. You earned it. Give yourself a pat on the back now for a job well done. That’s all you get for doing the hard fucking things and keep on going.
